چکیده
SIK,-A case of haemorrhagic fever caused by Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF) virus' in May, 1983, in a parient who lived in Selibaby, south-eastern Mauritania, prompted an epidemiological survey in this area in March, 1984. The area around Selibaby is undifferentiated dry savannah. It is an important cattle-raising area, especially during the dry season when herds migrate from the north ofMauritania. During 1982 and 1983, the migration was intensified by the drought. The patient owned a large herd ofcamels about 20 km from Selibaby and was staying with the herd when he fell ill. We collected ticks from camels, cattle, sheep, goats, and horses, blood samples from cattle, rodents, and humans, and organ pools from rodents and cattle, in and around the Selibaby area, including thc Bake1 region of Senegal which lies along the border. CCHF virus isolation from ticks is summarised in the table. CCHF virus strains were identified by complement-fisation test with mouse immune ascitic fluid to the reference Ib Ar 10200 strain of virus. One of the strains isolated, ArD 38554, was compared by neutralisation test with the reference strain to provide definitive identification of the virus. Haemorrhagic fever viruses (HFVs) are a diverse group of viruses that cause a clinical disease associated with fever and bleeding disorder. HFVs that are associated with a potential biological threat are Ebola and Marburg viruses (Filoviridae), Lassa fever and New World arenaviruses (Machupo, Junin, Guanarito and Sabia viruses) (Arenaviridae), Rift Valley fever (Bunyaviridae) and yellow fever, ...

Sera collected in May 1984 from 132 adult residents of Karamoja district, Uganda, were examined by haemagglutination inhibition tests for antibodies against selected arboviruses, namely Chikungunya and Semliki Forest alphaviruses (Togaviridae); dengue type 2, Wesselsbron, West Nile, yellow fever and Zika flaviviruses (Flaviviridae); Bunyamwera, Ilesha and Tahyna bunyaviruses (Bunyaviridae); and...
متن کاملEpidemiological processes involved in the emergence of vector-borne diseases: West Nile fever, Rift Valley fever, Japanese encephalitis and Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever.
Over the past few decades, the geographical distribution of arthropod-borne zoonoses has dramatically expanded. The influence of human-induced or ecological changes on the risk of disease outbreaks is undeniable. However, few hypotheses have been proposed which address the re-emergence of these diseases, the spread of these viruses to previously uninfected areas and their establishment therein....
متن کاملSerologic Survey of Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever among Sheep in Ardabil Province, Northwest Iran
Introduction: Livestock is a known source of Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) virus infection in humans. Although CCHF is endemic in Iran, limited human cases of CCHF are reported from northwest of Iran. Considering the lack of complete and updated information on the status and distribution of CCHF infection among domestic animals in Ardabil province, this study was conducted to investiga...
